What is an episode cost?
An episode cost is the total price of a medical procedure, including all the separate bills you'll receive — the facility fee, the doctor's professional fee, and any ancillary charges like anesthesia, labs, or imaging.
How is this calculated?
We aggregate individual procedure prices reported by hospitals under the CMS Price Transparency Rule, then combine them into realistic episode bundles based on what patients actually experience during common procedures.
What does data completeness mean?
Data completeness shows what percentage of expected episode components a hospital has reported prices for. Higher completeness means a more accurate total estimate. Low completeness may understate the true total cost.
